Shanghai

Loading...

Shanghai is a global center of trade and an economic powershouse. Cars are replacing bicycles and the new-elite plan vacations to the beaches of Thailand or the castles of Europe. The wonders of this dynamic city are evident in its modern manufacturing plants, worldclass restuarants, and its thriving art and cultural scene.

This dynamic city offers an incredible opportunity to witness modern China where skyscrapers tower over remnants of the city’s colonized past.

Even though Shanghai is as westernized as Hong Kong and as modern as New York, you will still find slices of traditional Shanghai life in the city’s parks and neighborhoods. Beside the must see attractions like the Bund, Nanjing Road and Yu Garden, there are many smaller places of interest throughout the city that are important destinations for those interested in the city's history and culture.  These destinations are scattered throughout and easily reached by subway, bicycle or taxi.

Different from the grand historic sites of Beijing or Xi'an, Shanghai offers a glimps into the complexity that is today's China. From the site of the birthplace of the Communist Party which sits adjacent to the chic and upscale Xintiandi, to the Urban Planning museum where Shanghai's identity as a global city sits on display, you will undoubtedly find a piece of history and culture that is relevant to modern China and how we interact with her.
